I Heart Huckabee

Remember the last election when Mike Huckabee was the reasonable one? Just  a nice guy from Hope, Arkansas. Charming in a homespun Cracker Barrel restaurant sort of way.

Now, his creepy Pat Robertson roots are showing. He is not only vehemently religious in his intolerant zeal, he’s vehement enough that other candidates give him a wide berth when forced to take a position on his latest screed. He has become one of the great unhinged, somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan.

“It’s not up to the courts to invent new minorities that get special protections,” Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently told the Federalist Society. He was defending his decisions on DOMA and California Prop 8, implying gay people are a “minority” under the law. Scalia often makes these anti-“minority” decsions. Replace the word gay with almost any group smaller than the white male, and sometimes when it suits him, female population and he is exhaustingly predictable.

Scalia often lives in a topsy-turvy world where his own words oddly prove him wrong and this is one of those times.

Paul Ryan: As God is My Witness, God Gave Us Our Rights

Hebrew National Hot Dogs likes to advertise they “answer to a higher power“. Even though the slogan isn’t exactly non-controversial – some orthodox Jews claim they aren’t Glatt Kosher – they are, after all, in the business of making sausages.

But Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WhatthehelliswrongwithWI) thinks all Americans should answer to a higher power too – God – presumably the Christian one. That makes this one of those cases when you shouldn’t watch the sausage being made.
